Maui is a beautiful island gifted with natural sights and idyllic destinations, but it also boasts accessible routes for exciting motorcycle adventures. The Hana Highway is the greatest of these, with a route that hugs breathtaking cliffs and leads to expansive views of the Pacific Ocean's blue waters and the island's vast rainforest. Maui Dual Sport offers motorcycle rentals and adventure tours so you will have have an unforgettable time in Maui complete with thrilling trips to scenic routes and destinations.
Complete Your Maui Experience with a Ride on the Road to Hana
Riding on the Hana Highway is relatively short and will not require extensive planning, though there are sharp hairpin turns and the road can become slippery after rains, but the main challenge will be paying attention to the road when the surroundings contain such amazing scenery.
During heavy rains flash flooding may occur. The best months to visit the Hana Highway are April, May, September, October and November. Riding before sunrise is recommended to avoid traffic and get the best views. Head out before sunrise and return after sunset to get the ideal Hana experience.
The route spans 52 miles and can be done with a single tank. Just fill up at Kahului before starting. You can also fuel in Paia and Hana but there aren't many places to top up between them.
The scenery will be more than worth it with waterfalls, exotic flowers, beaches and the vast ocean making for a memorable riding experience. The town of Hana itself has attractions such as the Hana Cultural Center that displays the island's Polynesian history and the replica Kauhale village that shows life before the arrival of Western settlers. The most popular waterfalls in the route include:
Hanawi Waterfalls, a spectacular spot and Hana's most cherished sight.
Upper Waikani Falls or the Three Bears Waterfalls
Twin Falls, which has an area visitors can swim in.
Wailua Falls, an 80 foot waterfall that is a sight to behold.
Travelers can also explore Wai’anapanapa State Park, a 122-acre area known for freshwater caves, a shoreline with sea arches and black sand beaches.
